Right in our backyard, there are two hundred square miles of water that give us recreation and relaxation - Lake Mille Lacs. It’s a source of pride in our community. That’s why we want to make sure our shores stay scenic and inviting. Five years ago, Adopt-a-Shoreline, a community-wide partnership, was created to collect trash on designated shorelines.
Come join a good cause, close to our hearts.
Adopt-A-Shoreline In Action
Last year, more than 2,000 lbs. of trash was removed from the shores of Lake Mille Lacs as part of the inaugural program.
Lana O., Onamia, MN
“Last year, my son, daughter and I volunteered for the Adopt-a-Shoreline program. It was a really gratifying experience for all of us. We were surprised how much trash is washed ashore after ice out. This program is definitely needed and appreciated in our community!”
Beth G., Pierz, MN
“Last year I almost didn’t participate in Adopt-a-Shoreline because I only had a few hours available to help. I was worried that my two hours wouldn’t make a difference. Boy was I wrong. The time I spent along the lake was not only good for my soul, but great for the environment. My efforts meant there was one less bag of trash littering the shores of Mille Lacs Lake – pretty great for two hours’ worth of time.”
Ned W., Aitkin, MN
“My family and I were happy to be a part of the program and see the success firsthand. It’s always a good feeling when you know you are doing your part in bringing value back to such a popular destination in the area.”
